IFOAM Congress in Brussels

The congress was organised by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements). It brought together major actors from the organic sector – including policy makers at EU and national levels and a broad range of stakeholders.

The principal topics discussed were the European Action Plan on Organic Food and Farming, the input from the organic sector to the process of the CAP health check and budget review, reforming the CAP and the future of organic farming within this, rural development policies, the new EU organic regulation and research into these areas.

There was a great diversity of groups and regions represented across Europe with a focus on keeping organic farming high on the EU political agenda while at the same time defining political recommendations that will allow for a dynamic development of the organic sector within each region in the years to come.
