Oxfam Unwrapped campaign launched for Christmas
Oxfam Ireland will run its Unwrapped gift campaign again this year with an expanded range of options for gift givers.
This year the focus is on Zimbabwe and choosing an Unwrapped gift will help to improve the lives of people across the country by allowing them to generate an income to survive. A new addition to the gift range is Sunflowers - ideal for relatives and friends with green fingers, or for ladies who love receiving a bunch of flowers! Sunflowers can be grown and when mature they can be pressed for oil, earning a valuable income for people and communities in developing countries.
The Sunflowers gift provides the recipient with all the equipment and seeds needed to grow and harvest these valuable plants. Sunflowers have been identified, by Oxfam and its partner organisations in Africa, as an easy crop to grow. This gift is particularly beneficial for people living with HIV and AIDS – the aim is to allow them to generate an income for themselves so they can buy nutritious food to improve the efficiency of their medication. A lot of the time these people are struggling to access even basic meals, vital in order to allow the antiretroviral drugs they are using to achieve maximum effectiveness. For just €20 your gift will give people in the developing world a real ray of hope.
Unwrapped gifts, including the Sunflowers gift, can be purchased online, in your local Oxfam shop, by post and by phone (1850 30 40 55). Simply check out the website www.oxfamireland.org or visit Oxfam Ireland stores to find out more.
