First organic region in France
There is a good case for inviting the Regional Council for the Auvergne to Ireland to assist us in doing what government seems incapable of here. The Council has designed a plan to designate the area as the first organic region in France.
To do this an ambitious strategy has been launched which will see a doubling of current financial support adding to a budget which has increased threefold in the past four years.
Elements of the plan include:
- Designation of a lump sum per hectare to support farms.
- Implementation of a plan for organic meals in schools with training for chefs and managers.
- Increased distribution of organic produce to restaurants.
- A consumer awareness campaign.
- A marketing and distribution campaign.
- Provision of research and development.
