Cavan IFA branch propose organic sub committee
At a July meeting of the Cavan branch of the IFA, a motion was passed to bring forward to the IFA's national executive. The motion was to establish an organic farming sub-committee. There were over one hundred delegates in attendance, and the motion was passed unanimously.
The future is local
A two day event showcasing the best of everything local and sustainable will take place on 26th and 27th October at the Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
Apple Day at Seedsavers
In celebration of the home-grown apple Seed Savers is hosting numerous activities for its Apple Day, Sunday 28th September 2008 from 12 noon to 5pm.
National organic food awards
Last year the inaugural organic food awards took place at the SHOP Event in September. The best overall organic product for 2007 was St Tola organic goat's log from Inagh Farmhouse Cheese in Co. Clare. The event is now an annual event and gives organic producers a good chance to profile their products.
Blas na hÉireann
The inaugural National Irish Food Awards, Blas na hÉireann, will be presented in October, 2008 as further recognition of the growing importance of the artisan food sector.

The National Organic Training Skillnet (NOTS) was set up in 2008 to provide a low cost training option for the commercial development of organic production throughout the country. The programme is a joint venture between the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association, the Organic Trust and the Western Organic Network.
Downeys spice it up
John Downey's corned beef and spiced beef is legendary and has won him many accolades. In fact, winning awards is an every day occurrence for the butcher from Terenure whose shop walls display the many distinctions he has garnered over the years.
New organic training programme launched
The National Organic Training Skillnet (NOTS) was launched in Dublin recently. This is the first comprehensive organic programme available nationally that will deliver extensive training courses in organic food production. A brochure listing just some of the training courses available has been distributed to all of the certified organic producers and processors in the country.
