National Conference on Local Food Exploring the Opportunities
The opening address for this conference held in November, 2007 was given by Minister Trevor Sargent T.D. He began by addressing the issue of energy consumed in the production of food and the importance of consuming food in season to keep demands on fossil fuel energy as low as possible.

On the 6th of November Bord Bia launched its new centre of excellence which is called Bord Bia Vantage.

The congress was organised by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements). It brought together major actors from the organic sector – including policy makers at EU and national levels and a broad range of stakeholders.

New study shows that organic food is better
A study funded by the European Union over four years showed that, in general, organic food contains less fatty acids and more antioxidants.
New Organic Guide for Ireland
The Organic Centre is updating the Organic Guide to Ireland. The Guide will include listings of producers, retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of certified organic goods in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Green Sod Land Trust - An Fóidín Glas ends the year on a high note
In the last issue of Organic Matters, we featured an article on the Green Sod Land Trust, a new charitable organisation set up in 2006 to protect and conserve land in Ireland. The vision of the Trust embraces the fact that the population of Ireland is more than the human population - we must take into account all other species. The Trust is a critical response to our growing alienation from our natural environment and aims to reconnect us with our native soil and our deepest roots in the land.
